EAN-13 Barcode Generator

Create an EAN-13 barcode from your 12- or 13-digit GTIN-13. The check digit is calculated or validated for you.

UPC, EAN and ITF-14 numbers must come from GS1. We turn numbers into barcodes; we don't sell numbers. Get official GTINs from GS1 US or your country's office via gs1.org. Recycled numbers from resellers can be rejected by Amazon and retailers. Learn more.

Checking…

EAN-13 is the international retail barcode used in Europe, the UK, Australia and most of the world, and it is accepted by scanners in North America too. The first digits are the GS1 country prefix of the organisation that issued the company prefix, not the country where the product was made. Download a vector file and keep the white quiet zones clear when you place it on packaging.

Verified before you print

BarcodeKit draws every barcode from one precise geometry model, then reads it back with ZXing, an open-source scanner engine running in your browser. PNG, SVG, true-size PDF and EPS downloads all come from that same verified geometry, so what we check is exactly what you print.

Private by design

Nothing you type or upload leaves your device. There is no account, no server-side processing and no tracking of your product numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get a real UPC or EAN number?

From GS1 (gs1us.org in the US, or your country's GS1 office via gs1.org). GS1 US sells single GTINs as well as company prefixes for larger catalogues. Enter the number GS1 gives you here and BarcodeKit turns it into a print-ready barcode.

Does the 590 or 978 at the start matter?

The first two or three digits are the GS1 prefix of the issuing member organisation. 978 and 979 are reserved for books (ISBN), 977 for periodicals. Never change these digits yourself; use the number GS1 gave you.

Is BarcodeKit free?

Yes. Generate, verify and download barcodes as PNG, SVG, PDF or EPS with no account, no watermark and no sign-up.

Are my barcode numbers uploaded anywhere?

No. Barcodes are drawn and checked entirely in your browser. Your product numbers, SKUs and CSV files never leave your device.

Do you sell UPC or EAN numbers?

No, and we recommend you never buy them from resellers. Official UPC, EAN and GTIN numbers are licensed by GS1, the standards body. Amazon and most retailers check numbers against the GS1 database and can reject recycled ones.
